FEMTO-ST is a partner of the international joint unit GT-CNRS created on March 23rd 2006 by the CNRS and the Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) located in Atlanta and represented in Europe through Georgia Tech Lorraine (GTL) in Metz. Two Engineer Schools (ENSAM and Supélec) and two universities (the University of Franche-Comté in Besançon and the University of Paul Verlaine in Metz) are associated members.Consequently, they have become the first new structure of this type in France. It should enable considerable advances in telecommunications and nanotechnologies fields and could recruit numerous researchers and technical personnel.

Georgia Tech Lorraine (GTL) is the European campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta), the second most important university of the USA in terms of research financing. Created in 1990, its activities focus on leading-edge technology in two particular fields: secured networks and innovating materials. Some personnels of FEMTO-ST are also UMI associated members or collaborators.
