After receiving the B.S.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from the "Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Physique", Strasbourg, France, in 1990, and the Ph.D. degree in Robotics and Automation from the University Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, in 1993, Nicolas Chaillet became Assistant Professor at Université de Franche-Comté in 1995 and Professor at Université de Franche-Comté in 2001.

Since 1995 he carries out his research in microrobotics at the Laboratoire d’Automatique de Besançon (LAB), now AS2M research department of FEMTO-ST Institute. He was successively the head of the LAB Micromanipulation and microactuators Research Group, the head of LAB (2007), the head of AS2M department (2008-10).
