Abbas Homayouni Amlashi

Abbas Homayouni-Amlashi got his BSc and MSc in Mechanical engineering in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Continuing in the research field, in 2018 he joined the the AS2M department of FEMTO-ST institute, Université Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, where he got his PhD in 2021. The Subject of the PhD was "optimization of vibrational energy harvesting structures based on piezoelectric materials".  The PhD has been fully supported financially by the French National Research Agency  CODE-TRACK project (ANR-17-CE05-0014-01). During his PhD, he used the Topology Optimization Methodology as a form of structural optimization to design novel configurations of piezoelectric energy harvesters capable of harvesting the energy coming from different directions. In this regard, he has developed MATLAB codes to implement the topology optimization methodology in particular the SIMP approach for piezoelectric materials modeled with 2D and 3D finite elements. 

Currently, he is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Micro and Nano Robotics team of FEMTO-ST institute and he is working within the MIMEDI project aims at designing fluidic chips actuated by electric fields dedicated to cell sorting devices, in the frameworks of the development of Advanced Therapy Medical Products. In particular, he is applying the topology optimization methodology to optimize the shape of the electrodes.
