Birgit Stiller was born in 1984 in Nuremberg (Germany) and studied physics and mathematics at the university of Erlangen-Nuremberg where she obtained a Master’s degree (1.Staatsexamen für Gymnasium) in 2008. During her last two years, she worked on the fabrication process of periodically poled lithium niobate. In 2009 she started a PhD at the institut FEMTO-ST where she studies Brillouin forward and backward scattering in photonic crystal fibers with regard to the development of distributed Brillouin sensors.
