The seminar is held by Lian LIU, CNRS Research Associate working at LCPME in Nancy. 

The electrochemical reactivity at electrode/electrolyte interfaces is a key concern in the domain of electrochemical energy conversion and storage.

In this presentation, Dr LIU will focus on the research activities targeting at measuring electrochemical reactivity in their group, in which he participates or leads, for redox flow battery, electrochemical actuation and corrosion applications. At “small” scale, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy are used to measure the charge transfer kinetics of ferro/ferricyanide on carbon felt and the carbon fiber extracted from the felt. The analysis is carried out by fitting the experimental results by electrochemical models. At microscale, scanning electrochemical microscopy, atomic force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy are used to in-situ measure the electrochemical actuation of MXene as a result of intercalation of Li+ ions upon applying cathodic potential. He will also demonstrate the development of scanning gel electrochemical microscopy, from instrumentation, probe elaboration, experimental modes to the (ongoing) analysis. It is used for analyzing the local corrosion reactivity as well as the charge transfer kinetics locally on carbon fiber. Recently, preliminary results also suggested the feasibility of recording electrochemical video from counter electrode for deriving the reactivity map of the sample (working electrode).
