Séminaire Frédérique Vanholsbeeck "Imaging biological systems at the micron scale using photonics and quantum technologies"

On Wednesday February 14, 2024, Frédérique Vanholsbeeck, from the Department of Physics at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, will give a seminar at 2 p.m. in the JJ Gagnepain Amphitheater  (FEMTO-ST Temis Site)

Title: Imaging biological systems at the micron scale using photonics and quantum technologies 

Abstract:
Our research group is part of Te Whai Ao -- the Dodd Walls centre for photonics and quantum technologies uses light to study biological processes with the aim of developing new diagnostic devices. We focus on non-communicable diseases, food quality and food safety. We use optical coherence tomography, fluorescence spectroscopy, nonlinear microscopy and optical tweezers. During the talk, I will focus on a few projects and showcase some recent results and how they are part of the research programme of Te Whai Ao -- the Dodd Walls centre for photonic and quantum technologies.

Bio:
Frederique Vanholsbeeck is a professor at the Department of Physics at the University of Auckland. She leads the biophotonics group and her research focuses on biomedical optics. In April 2023, she was appointed as the director of Te Whai Ao --  the Dodd Walls centre for photonics and quantum technologies. She has been awarded the NZAS Hill-Tinsley medal in 2020, the OSA (Optical Society of America) Diversity and Inclusion Advocacy Recognition inaugural award in 2018, and the Miriam Dell Excellence in Science Mentoring Award and the Dean’s Award for Sustained Excellence in Teaching in 2017.
