Title : Present and future opportunities in Analogue Gravity : From optical quasinormal modes to spatiotemporal vortex pulses

Abstract : In 1981, W.G. Unruh discovered a mathematical analogy between waves in condensed matter and scalar fields in a curved space-times. This discovery founded the field of analogue gravity and offered the possibility to experimentally investigate fundamental effects otherwise out of reach. Prime examples include : Hawking Radiation and Superradiance from black holes, or the creation of particles in an expanding Universe. On the other hand, analogue gravity also brought a new point of view and set of tools to describe various condensed matter platforms, shining new lights on elusive phenomena.
In this talk, I will present exciting new opportunities emerging in the context of analogue gravity namely the possibility to investigate black hole relaxation processes in nonlinear fiber optics as well as mimicking gravitational particles using spatiotemporal vortex pulses.
I will discuss physical motivations and the necessary experimental platforms required for studying those effects (including spectral instabilities and nonlinearities), as well as the possible answers analogue gravity might offer.
Overall, I will argue that analogue gravity is an important tool to better understand universal and fundamental physical effects and that it provides fertile grounds for the development of novel ideas.
