Deux projets FEMTO-ST distingués par l’ERC

Dans le cadre du 7ème PCRD, les appels à propositions de l’ « European Research Council » permettent de financer des projets de recherche ambitieux à la frontière des diciplines, le principal critère d’évaluation étant l’excellence scientifique des candidats. L’ERC propose ainsi deux principaux types de financement. Il s’agit d’une part du « Starting Grant » dont l’objectif est de soutenir de jeunes chercheurs prometteurs dans la mise en place de leur propre équipe de recherche autonome autour d'un projet innovant. D’autre part, il s'agit de l’« Advanced Grant » qui vise à soutenir des projets à haut risque « aux frontières de la connaissance », portés par des chercheurs expérimentés et déjà leaders dans leur domaine scientifique.

C’est d’ailleurs dans chacune de ces deux catégories que les deux projets émanents de FEMTO-ST ont été distingués par l’ERC en 2011

Dr Yanne CHEMBO CR1 CNRS (Institut FEMTO-ST / UMR 6174 CNRS-Université de Franche-Comté) est lauréat d’une « Starting Grant » d’un montant de 1,4 M€ pour le projet « NEXT PHASE » qui consiste à étudier et mettre en œuvre une nouvelle génération de sources microondes ultra-stables utilisant les technologies photoniques. L’objectif étant de surpasser les performances proposées par les meilleurs oscillateurs à quartz actuels en apportant une rupture technologique ayant un impact fort tant dans l’ingénierie aérospatiale ou de la communication que dans la science fondamentale.

Prof John DUDLEY (Institut FEMTO-ST / UMR 6174 CNRS-Université de Franche-Comté) et Prof Frédéric DIAS (University College Dublin/ ENS Cachan) sont lauréats d’une « Advanced Grant » de 1,8 M€ pour le projet « MULTIWAVE ». L’objectif du projet consiste a résoudre les mystères des vagues scélérates océaniques grâce à la compréhension des phénomènes extrêmes similaires observés en optique non linéaire.
