Prix « Recherche disciplinaire » de l’ANR pour le projet MANUREVA

L’Agence Nationale de la Récherche (ANR) a décerné en avril dernier ses premiers prix ANR du numérique pour mettre en lumière la valeur des chercheurs français et leur production scientifique dans un domaine dont le développement rapide impacte nos modes de vie et de penser la société

Porté par Fréderic Dias (ENS Cachan) et John Dudley (FEMTO-ST) le projet MANUREVA a obtenu le prix « Recherche disciplinaire » de l’ANR

L’objectif du projet MANUREVA consistait à résoudre les mystères de vagues scélérates océaniques grâce à la compréhension des phénomènes extrêmes similaires observés en optique non linéaire.

Le transfert des résultats expérimentaux obtenus en optique à la communauté scientifique qui travaille sur les vagues océaniques scélérates et sur l’hydrodynamique des océans est un exemple d’interdisciplinarité et de fertilisation croisée entre les disciplines des mathématiques appliquées et de l’optique non linéaire.

Ces travaux ont eu un écho considérable dans la communauté scientifique internationale et le développement futur de ces travaux pourront peut-être permettre de prédire un jour les conditions d’apparition des vagues scélérates si destructrices pour les navires et les plateformes pétrolières.

Un Advanced Grant ERC « MULTIWAVE » a d’ailleurs été attribué conjointement aux professeurs F. DIAS (actuellement à l’UCD Dublin) et J. DUDLEY (FEMTO-ST) pour donner une nouvelle impulsion aux recherches menées dans MANUREVA.
