National Hydrogen Thesis Award for Clotilde ROBERT!

This award recognizes her work on optimizing hydrogen-powered electric powertrains using a novel approach that combines technological performance, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility.

Winner of the national hydrogen thesis award for theses defended in 2024, awarded by the FRH2 Federation of the CNRS, Clotilde ROBERT has carried out exceptional work within the Energy Department of FEMTO-ST (SHARPAC team). Carried out in collaboration with the company GAUSSIN, her research focused on optimizing a hydrogen-powered electric traction chain for heavy port equipment.

Her approach is distinguished by a rare combination of technological objectives—improved dynamic performance, increased sustainability, reduction of operating costs—and an in-depth analysis of environmental and societal impacts. By integrating life cycle assessments and studying the societal impact of primary resource extraction, she proposes a true paradigm shift in the design of hydrogen energy systems. This approach, based on the search for an optimal compromise between technical performance and societal responsibility, was praised by the jury.

Supervised by Alexandre RAVEY (FEMTO-ST, UTBM) and Daniel HISSEL (FEMTO-ST, UMLP), the thesis was defended in November 2024 in Belfort and has resulted in four international publications and communications. A former student of the CMI Hydrogen–Energy Energy Efficiency (H3E) program at Marie and Louis Pasteur University in Belfort, Clotilde ROBERT is now continuing her journey of excellence with a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California in the United States.
