Introduction
A public research institute associated with the CNRS,
in the fields of engineering and applied physics.
The FEMTO-ST Institute “Franche-Comté Electronics Mechanics Thermal Science and Optics – Sciences and Technologies”, is a joint research institution, which is under the quadruple authority of the Université de Franche-Comté (UFC), the Centre National de la
Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), the SUPMICROTECH-Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Mécanique et Microtechniques (SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM) and the Université de
Technologie Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM).
Today, in FEMTO-ST's scientific departments and general services, we count a total staff of 700 people. The Institute is organized into seven departments :

RESEARCH
The specificity of FEMTO-ST is to associate the Sciences and Technologies of Information and Communication (STIC) with Engineering Sciences. Its thematic field covers optics, acoustics, micro nanosciences and systems, time-frequency, automatic, computer science, mechatronics, as well as mechanics and materials, energy and electrical engineering.
FEMTO-ST's research activities can be fundamental or applied, and regularly produce a socio-economic impact, in sectors such as energy and transport, health, telecommunications, space, instrumentation and metrology, watchmaking, the luxury industry
The institute can rely on high-level technology, equipment and platforms, particularly the micro and Central MIMENTO nanotechnology (microfabrication for mechanics, Nanosciences, the Thermal and Optical), member of the National CNRS RENATECH network .
