Prof. Salvatore STIVALA : "Graphene Field Effect Transistors and Miniaturized Travelling Wave Tubes for High-Frequency Applications"

A seminar of Professeur Salvatore STIVALA will take place on Monday December 4th 2023 at 2 p.m.  à l'amphithéâtre Jules Haag SUPMICROTECH - ENSMM.

The title of the seminar is : "Graphene Field Effect Transistors and Miniaturized Travelling Wave Tubes for High-Frequency Applications" .

Abstract :The seminar will start with an exploration of graphene field effect transistors (GFETs) and their use in high-frequency applications and photodetection. Following a brief overview of graphene and its electronic and optical properties, the discussion will delve into the design and fabrication of GFETs, their characterization in the microwave range, and their application for infrared detection. Shifting focus to the second segment of the seminar, attention will be directed towards the design of innovative interaction structures tailored for miniaturized Travelling Wave Tubes (TWTs), operating at very low voltages and suitable for 5G and 6G communications. After an initial introduction to Microwave Tubes and their role in systems such as satellite telecommunications and high-resolution radars, the presentation will unfold the design of these miniaturized TWTs

Salvatore STIVALA (Short CV) 

Salvatore Stivala is Associate Professor of Electronics at the Department of Engineering of the University of Palermo (UNIPA - Italy).
He received the Master Degree in Electronic Engineering and the Ph.D. Degree in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Palermo in 2004 and 2008, respectively.

His main research interests include:
- design and characterization of RF/microwave devices and circuits;
- TeraHertz spectroscopy;
- optical and electrical characterization of photodetectors;
- optoelectronic devices;
- biophotonics;
- error mitigation in free-space optical communications.
